Harvard Prof. Amy Edmondson on leveraging teams to reinvent and rebuild
Decades of established business norms have been disrupted in a matter of a month. While it may feel safe and compelling to desire a return to normal, CEOs and business owners understand that’s not really an option. Now, it’s about planning to move forward — to think about reinvention vs. repair.
As we plan for the future, the most important challenge will be problem-solving. And that’s going to take effective teams. But how should business leaders think differently about teams in this environment?
To answer that question, we asked Professor Amy Edmondson, the Norvartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School, to present to the Vistage community. She has conducted extensive research on teaming and published “Teaming: How Organizations Learn, Innovate and Compete in the Knowledge Economy and Teaming to Innovate”; “Building the Future: Big Teaming for Audacious Innovation” and “The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth.”
In her presentation, she covers:
• Psychological safety and why it matters
• How to reinvent and rebuild in an unknown future
• What leaders must do to build a fearless organization
She offers questions for reflection, exercises to conduct with your teams, and lessons based in rigorous research.
