Marcus Buckingham Module 2: Defining Love in Business
Summary
Love is a powerful driver of productive human behavior, says New York Times bestselling author Marcus Buckingham, but we don’t have a strategy for it.
Research shows that workers can avoid burnout and maximize performance if they can find love in 20% of what they do each day.
While many companies have strategies for doing things cost-effectively and efficiently, they lack a strategy for operating in what Buckingham calls a “lovingly” fashion.
He believes that organizations need to take love seriously, particularly in small businesses.
Love is not just about “chocolates and bouquets,” he says, but about an unwavering commitment to seeing people flourish. “A sort of love that underpins collaboration, the sort of love that underpins advocacy, the sort of love that drives sustained excellence.”
Buckingham recommends that CEOs and business leaders design love into their lives. “The best people don’t find their passion,” he says. “They don’t find a job they love. They do find the love in what they do.”
